About us

Lapis AI Consults, a NYC-based AI consultancy focused on business-first AI implementation, is starting a new venture in medical technology. The venture is led by the Founder and CEO of Lapis, who brings product and marketing leadership along with a patient community and media presence.
We are looking for a technical co-founder to build the venture's first product from the ground up.

The problem we are solving
A rare neurological disorder is treatable and often curable. The problem is finding it. Current technology is the bottleneck.
We are building an AI-driven clinical decision-support sysfor a neurological condition that is frequently missed by standard testing, leaving patients without answers for years. The product combines patient-specific modeling, medical imaging and patient-reported data to help patients understand their situation and clinicians decide what to investigate next.

The role
As technical co-founder and CTO, you will:

Set the technical vision and architecture for the product
Build the first prototype hands-on, then hire and lead the engineering team
Own data security and HIPAA compliance from day one
Partner with the CEO to recruit clinical advisors and research partners, and earn their trust as a peer
Partner with the CEO to meet with investors

Responsibilities

Must-haves

US-based and authorized to work in the US. US citizenship or permanent residency
Hands-on experience with probabilistic / statistical modeling, ML, neural networks and quantifying uncertainty
Strong Python experience
Has shipped software that handles PHI or other regulated data, and understands HIPAA controls in practice
A 0-to-1 builder: comfortable being the first engineer, then growing a team
Can explain technical decisions clearly to clinicians, funders and non-technical partners

Preferred

Healthcare experience
Physiological or physics-based simulation (experience with SciPy compartment models, FEniCS, OpenFOAM or similar)
Structured data extraction
Software as a Medical Device, FDA, or IRB-reviewed research experience

Compensation

-This is a commission-based role with significant earning potential.
-Earn 10% for initital contract size of $30,000 or less and 5% for contracts over $30,000

Sr. AI Engineer (Contract, Part-time)

Lapis AI Consults is seeking a Sr. AI Engineer (contract, remote, Part-Time)

You will be responsible for maintaining existing complex ML and LLM-based applications, as well as developing and maintaining new ones.

Qualifications

-Strong background in Computer Science and Software Development
-Experience with complex RAG pipelines (without using Langchain or LlamaIndex)

Tech stack:
Foundation and opensource LLMs, vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate) and embeddings, Next.js, Vercel, MongoDB, Cohere reranking, multimodal parsing (i.e. Unstructured.io)

This is a project-based, part-time, contract role.
